A fogger is a piece of equipment that atomizes a chemical or liquid into very fine particles and fogs them into the air. This application is popular with pest control since you want the chemical entering into small holes and crevices. Fogging with Mold Avenger will help remove airborne spores and odors as well as move the product into hard to reach or small spaces. Many contractors fog ventilation ducting and the inside of walls.

A fogger or atomizer is a piece of equipment that atomize or turn a solution into a fine mist which is then fogged into the air or onto surfaces and into cracks. You could also say an atomizer atomizes particles making them very small and fine and then releasing them into the air as a fine mist or fog. Atomizers should be used to remove airborne particulate like mold spores or odors. It is not a solution to replace physical removal of mold. Atomizing MoldAvenger will allow the enzymes to attach to airborne spores and odors and will drag them to the ground. This is affective when high airborne spore counts pose a health risk or have potential to move throughout the home or building in the ventilation shafts. It is a popular practice to fog ventilation ducting to remove airborne spores and odors form the ducting when cleaning of the ducting is being done. It is also a common practice for cleaning ducting especially after fires to remove smoke damage and odors. The process is the same either way. All ducts are blocked except the intake and the last duct in the chain. A fogger is placed at the intake (all filters must be removed from ducting prior) and is turned on along with the ventilation system. The product is fogged through the ducting until moisture is present at the far end. Then special cleaning sweeps must be run through the ducting to remove dirt and grime.

Atomizing is also popular in crawl spaces, basements and attics. All these places are areas of poor air movement and where additional moisture is not wanted. In attics especially there is usually insulation that you do not want getting wet or taking on additional moisture. Foggers can be used in these areas as they are the solution that will add the least amount of moisture and will bring down the airborne spores in these areas. Additional product must be applied to areas of visible growth using the spray bottle or garden sprayer then agitated and left 15-20 minutes before wiping away. Atomizing is always in addition to the normal cleaning process and never done solely in its place.

We cannot say for certain. It is our understanding that people with MCS can react to a variety of chemicals and products. Not all products that they can react to are highly toxic (i.e. laundry detergent).

MoldAvenger does have a light lemon fragrance to it. For a customer with MCS, the manufacturer recommends testing a small amount of product to see how they do with it. It is also recommended to have someone else mix the powder with water (the powder has a much stronger fragrance than the product does when diluted). MoldAvenger is known for being a less toxic solution for mold control. Hopefully the product will be compatible in most instances.

The common fix for many consumers is to use standard bleach to remove mold and mold stains from a variety of surfaces. While this may appear a good fix, bleach is known to leave behind a residue that mold spores feed on so you have possibly done yourself a future disservice.

Mold Avenger is a great product to remove the food source of future mold spores. Unfortunately it may do little to remove a mold stain from vinyl which seems to be the biggest concern among consumers.

Smart Storage and Mold Away are also great products that help combat the problem of Mold, Mildew and Fungus before it starts. These moisture absorbers are ideal for use in storage applications like Basements, Boats, Campers and RV’s and are designed to protect stored goods from the negative effects of moisture.

Krud Kutter is oftentimes used (in full strength doses) on heavily molded vinyl surfaces, but be careful of drips. The product requires good absorption and lots of wiping. The situation is usually worsened by the amount of time the mold was actively growing on the vinyl and may in fact be beyond a conventional stain removal process. It is hopeful the Krud Kutter was able to lighten if not remove the stain. However with mixed results reported by consumers, it is hard to say.

You may want to consider a program of eliminating sources for mold growth before the problem starts. This is a more effective means of controlling mold.

If you have knowledge of a good fix for this type of problem please let us know. We always love to share the success stories of others.
